Yesterday was an important day for Harvey’s Army.
The e-petition that was launched after Harvey, the poodle went missing reached the milestone of 100,000 signatures in January 2015.
This meant that Halton MP Derek Twigg could address the Backbench Business Committee and make the case for parliamentary debate. He did so yesterday and permission was granted!!!
Harvey’s Army is going to Parliament when the date has been set for debate!!!
May’s comment: Harvey’s Law is a campaign by animal lovers who rallied together to demand for change in the law that will make it compulsory for the Highway Agency to scan all dead pets and log the incidents with the police and dog wardens.
This was unfortunately not the case when Harvey went missing in November 2013. After a much publicised campaign to find Harvey, his owners were told in February 2014 that he had been killed on the roads less than an hour after he disappeared.
“Harvey’s Army” led by Nina Blackburn campaigned for change in the law. And yesterday was the first step towards achieving the goal to make scanning of dead pets compulsory and reporting the incident.
