Here’s my Report Card

Hi! Hi! Hi!

I’m here – all fluffed up and ready for cuddles and treats and short walks.

And as always, my report card from House of Mutt.

Tell me what it says … was I good, as always? 🙂

May’s comment: Woohoo! Darcy’s home.

Her staycation was almost a month long and as much as I missed her, I know she was having a blast.

But this time, it was slightly different at the start. In the eight plus years she’s been going to the House of Mutt, I’ve never had to have a conversation with Sarah except when it was a birthday or something to that effect.

She’s usually a bit serious faced on her first day after the initial introductions to the other dogs at the house. She tends to stay close to Sarah for the rest of the day. But usually after a big walk with the rest of the gang she’s back to being competitive, curious and adventurous.

But this time, she was subdued for the first two days. To the point that Sarah called with concern. We attributed it to a couple of things – it has been six months that we were constantly together throughout the pandemic. So a sudden realisation on her part that she wasn’t coming home that day might have caused her a bit of anxiety.

There was also the factor that I was in the hospital the day she arrived and the next day. She might have picked up on that.

Or is it that she’s now older?

After speaking we made the decision not to put her under any stress or any expectations – no training, no need to baby-sit the little pup – it was just going to be play time. She could run if she wanted and if she decided to just walk to heel, it was ok too. She could get as grubby as she wanted to – as long as she wasn’t coming home to me – LOL! And Sarah suggested to give her more food – aha! I knew it! She must have been acting up so she gets more food.

Soon enough she was back to her old happy self. Running ahead with the big dogs, running along with the doodles, playing big sister to the little pups. By the end of the stay, she was one happy pooch.

But now she’s home, snoring next to me as I write. We’re getting ready for the next lockdown and I am so glad she’s back. George will be home next week as my goal for this week is to be rid of walking with a single crutch.
