For us dog owners, every day is Dog Day. Our dogs fill our lives with love, responsibility, and companionship. When National Dog Day was founded in 2004 by animal welfare advocate and pet lifestyle expert, Colleen Paige, she intended it to celebrate all breeds—both mixed and pure. The day also serves to galvanise the public to recognise the number of dogs that are in shelters as well as strays.
National Dog Day honours family dogs as well as recognising the dogs that work selflessly to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.
There are dogs that put their lives on the line every day—protecting our families and homes, assisting their law enforcement partners, guiding their blind companions, supporting the disabled, and ensuring our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs, as well as helping to locate and rescue victims of accidents and tragedies. With their acute sense of smell, dogs are even being trained to detect cancer by identifying the odour signatures of breast, colorectal, lung, and other types of cancer.
Today, we acknowledge them. We give them a shout out. And we celebrate them because of what they mean to us individually as well as what they have done for humanity.
In recent years we have seen an increase in many places celebrating Dog Day. This year, we have been busy taking part in several places around London that have been doing just that.
The days leading up to National Dog Day, or International Dog Day, we were invited to breakfast at Brown’s Hotel as they officially launch their BFF (Best Furry Friend) collaboration with William Morris At Home.

We had a bbq at 1 Hotel Mayfair where we added to our art gallery with drawings by Helen Ridley.

A photoshoot at Badiani Gelato in Chelsea.

And a YapYap’s Snugglefest at Nobu Shoreditch. We had more photos taken and Mum did some shopping!

We hope you’ve had a lovely day spoiling your dogs. We certainly did.
