Marvellous May!

Cold days lingered for awhile and only two weeks ago that we had a glimpse of Spring. We are almost at the half way mark of the year and June brings Summer – that’s what they say.

The month of May began with a bang! It was all about the Coronation of King Charles III and celebrations began the week before at a Doggy Coronation Pawty!

We geared up to take in the celebrations …

And we wore crowns!

Sometime in between we checked out the very dog-friendly Pan Pacific London Hotel in the city’s Square Mile – it was nice to get away from the familiar surrounds to the city bright lights. But we were particularly impressed at how dog friendly they were – a very well thought through Paws Programme.

The month of May was also about Goodwoof – the festival that is all about the dog!

We were invited to a preview of the kennels designed specially for Barkitecture, that were up for auction at Goodwoof. We were reunited with the Duke of Richmond – who remembered me as one of the winners from last year’s Chien Charmant. But he probably remembered Mum because she was wearing the same outfit as last year. LOL!

Goodwoof on the grounds of Goodwoof Estate was the weekend of the 20-21 May!!! It had to be one of the happiest place on earth – so many hoomans and their dogs just enjoying the amazing atmosphere in beautiful sunshine.

As soon as we were back in London, Chelsea was a-bloomin’! We mainly saw the displays from being driven through the streets on a trishaw. The theme this year was “Flowers in Film”. The whole neighbourhood was just heaving with people who also were here for the Chelsea Flower Show.

The month also saw lots of friends visiting from all corners of the States and from Tuscany …

During this busy month, there were a couple of poignant moments. The 16th May was Darcy’s 12th Earthly Gotcha Day and our second without her. We miss her greatly still, but recently, we received a message from beyond – from our grandparents whom I have never met. During a spiritual card reading, Grandma had come forth to let Mum know that she has Darcy! They have been united.

Although we like to believe that Darcy’s been doodle dashing with her friends amongst the clouds, it just made Mum feel a little better to know that she also has her hooman family with her. She was always Mummy’s girl and Grandma knew that. <3

The month ended on a sombre note. When Mum received a text with the devastating news about Skylar, our Weimaraner friend – we were in total shock. They had been out during their regular walkies when happy, healthy Skylar jumped down and fractured her leg. At the vet, they discovered bone cancer and just like that, it was the beginning of the end. We couldn’t believe it was all happening so quickly. When Mum spoke to Anne – we said goodbye via a phone call. We still can’t believe that she is no longer with us.

And as we have been comforted by knowing that Darcy and our cousin Molly are safely with our loved ones across the bridge, we hope that our friends know that Skylar are now safely with her Grandma. RIP Skylar – I hope you’ve also found your friends over yonder who have gone before you.

May’s comment: C’mon June. Can we put away our coats yet?

May was a whirlwind of worldwide events – from the historical King Charles III Coronation, to the weirdly popular Eurovision that was held in Liverpool this year on behalf of Ukraine. While Chelsea In Bloom is now a favourite on the London social calendar, Goodwoof was fast establishing itself in the world of dogs after only it’s second season.

Aside from all that, the last week of May also saw the season finale of two of my favourite TV series – Succession and Ted Lasso. Although both were dramedies, they were polar opposites in themes – they will always remind me of the binge watching that began during Covid Lockdown. They have both now finished their story arcs. Succession left me feeling sorry for the characters – a tragic end to what they thought was inherently theirs. While Ted Lasso just made me sad that the weekly stories about kindness are no more in today’s troubled world. It made me laugh out loud so many times, and there were tears from connecting with the characters as they grew and changed.

So what’s up next, June? It will be a busy month too but for different reasons. This will be Sasha’s last term at Prep School … and a teenager and Senior school awaits.
