Let’s rescue Reggie – and others …

Reggie (as he has been renamed) was found chained up in a patch of land with no house attached.  He was left with a bowl of water full of scum and green algae.   There was a nearby kennel which was hardly big enough to shelter him from the sun and the summer heat.So he would find patches of shade to sit in.  Some days there was no shade.  Some nights he must have been very cold. And other days he must have just got very wet.

This was how Kelly-Anne found him when she was holidaying in Croatia.  When she and her friends went over to fuss him they discovered that one of his back legs was possibly broken. There he remained tied up with a broken leg, apparently for the last three years.Kelly-Anne and her friends were staying in a hotel nearby and learnt that he had been tied up there in the waste land but no one seemed to know who he belonged to.  Apparently some people have left food for him over the last three years while he was tied up and left on the wasteland.  How did he survive?

They could not bear to leave him there.  So Kelly-Anne called good ol’ mum, Joanne back in the UK who immediately rang up agencies and charities.  When she reached out to Action Aid for Animals, within two hours, the rescue agency based in the UK managed to have Reggie unchained and taken away to a shelter. This is Marijana who drove for over an hour to pick up Reggie.

Reggie will be fostered in a home before they operate him.  Then he will be on his way to his forever home in the UK.

Reggie is one of so many dogs out there that have been cruelly let down by humans who have no regard for animals.

Thankfully there are people like Kelly-Anne and her mum who cannot walk past abandoned animals and let them be.

The charity, Action Aid for Animals asked for nothing from Kelly-Anne nor her mum which shows how genuine they are. Their priority was to get him rescued. They have even found him a foster carer because they did not think it was suitable for him to recover from his operation in the shelter. Reggie will then be transported over to the UK once he’s well enough to travel.

Kelly-Anne and her mum had set up a Go Fund Me page – Rescue Reggie to raise money so that Reggie could be treated by the vets in Croatia (a lot cheaper) and to help get him back to the UK.  To date they have raised £1300 to cover Reggie’s treatment.  Any left over money will be donated to the organisations that have helped to rescue Reggie.  These non-profit rescue centres in Croatia work tirelessly to help dogs like Reggie and rely entirely on donations.

So besides whatever left over money there is from Go Fund Me, Joanne had started to a collection of any sort for the charity and the shelters there. Apparently some of the rescue centres don’t have transport, so the volunteers have to walk miles and literally carry animals in their arms back to the shelters.   To date, Joanne’s campaigning efforts have managed to send two doggy bike trailers, beds, leads, food, etc. They are desperate for flea and tick treatments. Kendra Pinder, the lady who organised Reggie’s rescue from the UK told Joanne that sometimes the rescuers in Croatia will go without food themselves in order to make sure the animals are fed.

Through Reggie’s rescue efforts, we have met others who have also become involved.  We’re hoping that at our next Hyde Park meet, that Shirley who is helping to raise donations for Action Aid will come along so if any of our London friends would like to donate dog beds, crates, etc, etc would be able to do so visa Shirley. Will keep you informed.

I have only become aware of so many dog charities in the UK and abroad that can use our help after George entered our lives.  So many rely totally on donations.  And so many to help. We can all do our part – one at a time.
