My dear Luna,
I always remember my first experience of playing in the snow was with you in Dusseldorf – back when I was just a pup.
During our first meeting, you welcomed me warmly into your home. We played non-stop, and gave each other kisses the whole time.

And when we got tired, you kept me company.

Wherever you went, I was close by.

But then I left to go home and it was many years before we saw each other again, though George had visited in between and Mum, of course saw you each time she visited Dusseldorf.
In January 2018, after our very long journey to the north of Norway – Mum, George and I stopped over in Dusseldorf on our way home. That was the first time we have all been together.

You were always the gracious host no matter how many of us were there.

When we met up again in August 2018 – it was as if no time had passed. We played together in the garden like we always did when we visited. This time I was more boisterous at seven years of age.
We went for walkies together.

But we were both older by then. You liked the comfort of your own bed and we didn’t snuggle up like we did seven years before.

Then came the pandemic and all travel plans were cancelled. We had hoped to be in Dusseldorf last Christmas but that wasn’t happening.
It had been almost a week ago when we received a text message from your mum. It was simply a photo of you lying in your bed and four little black hearts – symbolising the members of your family.

Although we haven’t seen each other much over the years, it was always taken for granted that every time we were in Dusseldorf we will always see you. You were one of my first friends and we always got on well.

But illness took you, and you crossed the bridge last Sunday. Our hearts are broken.
Good night, Luna. Every time we see the moon in the sky, we will always think of you. But you continue to live on in our hearts. Now no geographical distance will keep us apart.
May’s comment: You were one of the first dogs I got to know in the pre-Darcy years. And you were such a polite pooch, so perfect in so many ways – you were a Seeberger dog!

The next time when I am at your home, I will miss the pitter patter of your paws on the stone floor when you come to check on me in my room. Good night, sweet Luna.
