When Barnaby showed us his chocolate brown cockapoo cards from Pet Portrait Illustration …

We wondered if there were any apricot cockapoos/cavapoos. Oh yes, there were! Apricots and reds … not to mention black as well.

But what about George! Now, that wouldn’t be fair, would it?

So Mum asked Chloe of Pet Portrait Illustration if she could do one of us … and she obliged.

Chloe will be in John Lewis on Oxford Street from the 22nd – 28th of November selling prints, cards and custom portraits as part of the Curated Makers Markets on the 3rd floor within the Christmas Emporium, every day from 10am-8pm and 12-6pm on Sundays. John Lewis stores are dog friendly, so you can bring your dogs along and start your Christmas Shopping.

Hand-painted during one hour time-slots, these wonderfully unique illustrations make perfect last minute Christmas Gifts! Chloe accommodates bookings on the day depending on her availability, but if you’re wanting to watch the painting process, it’s advisable to book ahead to get a time slot which suits you. Prices range between £20 to £50 for a Custom Portrait.

All she needs to create each Portrait are a few good quality images of your Pet. You can send these via DM or email beforehand if you’re pre-booking, or on the day! Chloe is now taking bookings via Instagram @petportraitillustration and petportraitillustration@gmail.com

Chloe’s story –

Pet Portrait Illustration started completely by accident. It was three days until Christmas when my boyfriend rang me in a panic saying he still hadn’t gotten presents for his family and needed something to give them. And his budget was £30. For three gifts …

Being forced to work quickly in a fast drying medium meant my brushstrokes were looser and the colours more bold. I added an ink outline to tidy up the edges and there they were! The very first Pet Portrait Illustrations.

As more and more people commissioned artwork, I was able to add new styles and size options to my portfolio. I was even contacted by someone inviting me to do ‘Live’ Portraits of the furry guests at their Event! This became a whole new side to my business, which has since allowed me to go around the Country, popping up in dog friendly locations, meeting People and their Pets, painting portraits while they wait.

There’s a special magic about Original Artwork, and in a digital world, I’m really proud to say that all my Custom Portraits are still hand-painted and customers will always receive the original copy.

But never again will I do three for £30!

I studied Miniature Painting at Art College so I’m always paying attention to the smallest details! I’m passionate about Original Artwork and love the techniques and processes that go into painting each portrait by hand. 

Growing up, I had Pets of all shapes and sizes, each with their own distinctive features and personality. I know how special the bond between People and their Animals can be, no matter how big or small they are. 

I currently have an adopted stray Cat called ‘Elvis’, who is the unwitting subject of many Portraits, normally whenever I need an example for a new Product! You’ll also spot his trademark black chin on a couple of Greetings Cards …

I started Pet Portrait Illustration in 2017, and it’s great to see how far my style has come. One thing that will never change, however, is the signature black outline around each illustration. Being a Small Business Owner has it’s challenges, but I’m so grateful to be able to do what I love and bring smiles to peoples faces at the same time!
