Recently opened Ganymede in Belgravia is a bar serving up fine dining food in a relaxed environment. Named after the largest moon of Jupiter, it is at the corner of Elizabeth Street (one our favourite streets in London) and Ebury Street. It was formerly the Ebury Wine Bar.
What does Mum like about it?
She loves the decor, the relaxed atmosphere …

And she loved the food …

Pretty good combo, right? Yup! She liked Ganymede so much that we dined there three times last week! Dinner, lunch and dinner again! Nothing like being excessive. LOL! And she had the same starter and main course each time! I also had her bread and some potatoes all three times (think she’s trying to eat less carbs).

Now that was not the end of dining for the week. While writing this blog, she then discovered that Ganymede has a sister restaurant, The Hunter’s Moon which is just down the road from where we live. Mum couldn’t wait to get over there!

Like Ganymede, this “countryside pub” in the middle of Chelsea is named after some celestial connection. In this case, the Hunter’s Moon is the first full moon after the Harvest moon and is a super-lunar event that falls between October and November.
In the UK, it has traditionally marked the time that stores need to be filled for the upcoming winter – to go and hunt for the last time and prepare for the cold to come. It was the time in folklore that Father and Son would hunt for the last time until spring, that the fires would start to be stoked, the smokers prepared and the larders filled – ready for an extended period of time inside where people would find solace in the warmth of their cottages and families. This, while seemingly dark, can also show how families and communities worked together – at the sign of the Hunter’s moon – in order to remain comfortable and well fed in otherwise times of hardship.
Oak and vintage tile flooring, and textured walls sit alongside soft autumnal coloured furnishings, touches of opulent velvet and feature pendant lighting.
The front pub area offers a casual menu of British classics while the dining room offers a more formal daily-changing menu.
The “countryside pub” food was again exceptional!
As we’re not allowed on the benches, we had baskets to sit in …

At dinner
Water served in a copper saucepan!
Note : Mum liked it so much, she had lunch and dinner on the same day at The Hunter’s Moon! LOL!
May’s comment: Two fabulous finds – fine British cuisine in a relaxed environment. Both these dining venues are part of The Lunar Pub Company, so named to honour the romantic connection between the night’s sky and frivolity. Thus explains the names of Ganymede and The Hunter’s Moon.
At Ganymede, relax with a drink at the front bar area before before heading to the velvet green banquette booths of the dining room.
