Meeting Bobo

I came home from my walk yesterday to find little Bobo in his crate.

I went for a sniff. I didn’t bark at him, I didn’t go mental.

I had just come back for my walk with Agnes and she came in with me – and then they let him out of the crate. He went straight to Agnes to give her kisses.And then he went over to Mummy to give her kisses and oh, I didn’t like that! I growled but got told off. I was actually more interested in the treats inside Bobo’s crate so I ventured in to check it out.Then it was supper time.  Boy, was he hungry!  I am sharing my Honey’s Food with him. It’s ok, we have enough.

What do I think of Bobo?

Well, I have to say he’s respectful. He knows his place.

He does like cuddles – he would ask to sit on Mummy’s lap. He gave her kisses. I was jealous but then I realised I can’t change things. So I let it be. I am watchful of his every movement. I did growl at him once or twice but was told to stop. I did.

But I also gave Mummy more kisses tonight than I have ever given her in one sitting!May’s comment: The introduction went extremely well! It was a good idea to have Bobo home before Darcy – she’s always territorial of anyone entering her home. All her toys have been put away except for her teddy which is in the bedroom – which I made sure Bobo did not go in.  She came in and could tell someone else was here and went straight to the crate.  She did not bark, just sniffed him. When Bobo came out of the crate in less than five minutes, she was absolutely fine. She only growled when he came to give me kisses. And when she did, he backed off immediately. Very intelligent dog.

Bobo has been remarkable. He has been so calm, so loving. He was rigid with uncertainty on the ride home, he didn’t want any treats, he didn’t want to drink any water, he didn’t really lay down. He was slipping down the side of the seat, sitting in a very awkward position. He didn’t walk on the lead so I carried him home. But by supper time, he was ready to eat. Maybe it was the presence of another dog that calmed him down. He gulped it all down and then started to look for food. When we brought out the treats, I noticed he was doing his one trick – to spin around every time he heard any rustle.  But doesn’t know any other commands. Not even sure he knows his name but by tone he could tell I wanted him to come to me.

I was told he’s not house trained. He came to me some hours later as I was at my desk but I didn’t understand what he was telling me. I thought he wanted a hug. But then he walked away to the kitchen where I had laid down some training pads and he went to pee on it! Well done!

I didn’t think I could be posting tonight – I had envisioned myself sitting on the kitchen floor with him or with Darcy comforting her. Instead they are both sleeping in the study as I sit in my usual place!

He finds the crate comforting and happily goes in there whenever I was doing something with Darcy (like washing her feet!)  Bobo knows to avoid the bathroom already – he associates that with getting wet. He was relatively calm during the bath.

But before the night was over, we were all watching Paul O’Grady’s For The Love of Dogs – altogether on my bed!!! 🙂 But he slept in the crate – for Darcy’s sanity.
