Cooper lives across the street from us. He’s a Springer Spaniel and came to his forever home from Battersea four years ago. He has a big presence. Sometimes when we walk past his house, he barks at us from the window. But yesterday we met his new friend – Minnie.
Now Minnie is one and she is a cocker spaniel who came all the way from Spain. She was adopted by someone who saw her in the shop window. She had not been bought and the end of the summer holidays were coming to an end. So this kindly woman asked the shopkeeper what was going to happen to Minnie. When she found out that she will be PTS because she had not been sold, the woman bought her.
But she was an elderly lady and could not take care of Minnie. The woman’s daughter brought her home from Spain to the UK to live in her flat. But her landlord said – no dogs! So she was staying with her dog-walker for weeks until Cooper’s daddy, Oliver heard about her situation – and adopted her! This is her fourth home in her short life.
Welcome to our neighbourhood, Minnie! We love dogs here and we can’t wait to see more of you.
As for Cooper, he is just like me – wondering what on earth happened to our world. First there was just us and our respective Mummy and Daddy. And then another one came along … and it seems they are staying for good.
Don’t worry, Cooper, your daddy loves you still and there’s plenty of space around. Now he has a Minnie + Cooper!
May’s comment: Welcome, Minnie, we love dogs on our street and they come in all shapes and sizes. It never ceases to amaze me how humans treat dogs. Some deploringly, some with such open hearts. Dogs are not commodities that can be traded and discarded. Dogs are living beings with feelings, emotions and a beating heart – a very big one at that. All they want is to be loved. We domesticated them – they are our responsibilities.

Thank goodness Oliver and Cooper opened up their hearts and home to Minnie, and now she is in the greatest dog neighborhood in the universe!
Such a lucky dog. I must admit to being a little amused by their names. Does Oliver drive a Mini Cooper I wonder! lol
A BMW! ?
Well said May. Dogs are our responsibility!
