My name is George

I met my foster Mum on the 18th September, 2014 … it took all of nano seconds before she started saying to Kim, “If I were to keep Bobo (that was my name), I would …” and she reeled off a list of things, the most important one was she would rename me – GEORGE, as in Clooney. Many of you who have followed my journey knew that. But do you remember what she called me before I finally became George?

You see, she had no right to rename me. I was Bobo. That’s what they named me when they got me out of the Killing Station and that was on my Hungarian passport.

As a fosterer, I was her temporary care. The eventual rightful owner would have the privilege to name me as they wished.

It was Day 2 after I arrived that she contacted Hilda at Hungary Hearts Dog Rescue to ask if she could have first refusal and to please give her the weekend to think it over. There was already a family in Manchester who was interested in me – so she had to work fast. First and foremost, was she allowed to have two dogs in the mansion block. She needed to check the cost of additional insurance. And importantly – was her head screwed on right. Monday came along and Hilda did not press her to make a decision. She walked and talked and talked and walked trying to get support and verification from everyone she could find to talk to about the decision.

Our first walk together.

As she was deciding on adoption, she couldn’t quite call me George – not yet. And she didn’t like “Bobo” so she called me He-Who-Has-No-Name – HWHNN. Bet there’s a word like that in Welsh! But she was already secretly calling me George.

After ticking off all the boxes, she finally signed the adoption papers and when she sent them back to Hilda on the 26th September 2014 – I officially became George. So today, is the official Gotcha Day-Adoption Day-Renaming Day. Even though I had her at hello! LOL!

The day I became George.

May’s comment: Happy Adoption Day, George!

After a week of debating with myself, I did the deed! And then we were three!

And so we end this week with an adoption post. We had dedicated this week’s blog posts to raise awareness of the many dogs that are still out there in need of a home. Please consider giving them a home.
