Hooray! It wasn’t raining in the morning so we made our way to West Bay just as the sun was rising.
Uh-oh! Red sunrise basically confirm what we already know – “Red sky at night, shepherd’s delight. Red sky in the morning, shepherd’s warning.” So it’s going to be another wet and windy day. But for now, we’re ok for seaside walk on the first day of the year.
George and I chased each other along the pebbly beach.
But we got too close to the edge and George had lost track of where we were when a wave crashed over us! Mummy was actually worried when she saw it all happening.
George was so stunned that he sat down, wondering what had just happened.
Then he got up and followed me out of the water.
There was one very wet dog feeling a bit sorry for himself.
We were both a little wet.
We walked a little further along the Jurassic Coast – there have been a few cliffs that had fallen lately and the tide is quite high so we couldn’t walk very far.
And you can’t see it but there’s a steep drop from where we were to the water’s edge. So George was back on the lead.
Before we went back to the hotel for breakfast, we stopped for a moment to ponder about things, rather Mummy did. We were simply just enjoying our run on the beach and being in the moment. For George, I think Mummy hope that he will become even more settled with us. We noticed something last night that we had never seen before.
We were up watching the New Year’s Eve midnight events in London on telly
when fireworks went off near us. George started to shake with fear. Mummy held him, cuddled him but he couldn’t stop shaking.
When there had been fireworks in London, he would take notice of them and more aware than I would be. He wasn’t frightened, he just sat alert but last night he was really scared. Maybe it was the unfamiliar noise and he being in a new place that scared him. We’ll have to see how he reacts to the next fireworks when at home.
As much as I love fireworks, I also hate them as it can have a very stressful impact on dogs, especially on bonfire night and New Year’s Eve. Like I said, sometimes it doesn’t affect my dog but for some reason it did last night. But I know that for some dog owners, their dog gets scared for quite a few days out of the year and it can really prove to be traumatizing. My friend has a dog who gets scared by loud noises on a frequent basis, so that is why she has decided to look into cbd tincture for dogs to see if this will help to relax and calm her dog during these times. Hopefully, it will work as I hate seeing dogs in distress.
And he’s also progressively not good on long car rides. He sits shaking and pants a lot. Mummy tried giving him a body massage which seems to calm him down a little. So we have a few things to work on.
As for me, Mummy said – just continue to live life and enjoy! Continue to be myself – to remind her to live in the moment and live as if each is your first or your last.
May’s comments: We have a lot to learn from our dogs. This is one good reminder for the new year.
And never hold grudges, don’t stress and let things go.
The only thing I don’t want to be like the dogs – their eating habits! They will eat everything and anything and wouldn’t stop either!!! After today, no more celebratory eating!!! Back to normal, please!

Beautiful pictures of you and George at the West Bay! Glad neither of you were hurt by the wave, though George was stunned. Stay brave through fireworks and thunderstorms and maybe George will grow brave, too! Jill
Poor little Georgeous. Perhaps as he has become more settled and old fears disappear, new fears have emerged? Sorry we couldn’t meet you on this trip… But we will one day!
That’s my home town. I was born 10 minutes away from where you were ‘swimming’. Glad you enjoyed it there.
Don’t worry George. Emma and Jasper become totally unhinged at the sound of fireworks too!
