Finding food that reminds me of childhood is always a highlight. Here are three recent finds in London’s Chinatown that are dog-friendly and which fed my nostalgia.
We finally got to dine at Singapulah, a vibrant, contemporary restaurant in Soho that offers an immersive culinary journey into the flavours of Singapore.
The venue combines nostalgic design elements inspired by 1970s Singapore with a modern, clean aesthetic and energetic atmosphere. It was a feast for the eye.
Its menu features authentic Singaporean and Southeast Asian dishes—think rich, aromatic laksa, savoury bak chor mee, and innovative twists like chilli crab baos and truffle mushroom siu mai—all crafted to showcase a diverse melting pot of flavours. Not to mention the durian ice-cream! Yum!

With a smart casual dining style, Singapulah has quickly become a popular spot in London, drawing diners with both its creative cuisine and its vibrant ambience.
Best of all – it is dog-friendly. There has been a shift in perception amongst Asian restaurants. Previously, it was almost impossible to bring dogs to one. As of the last few months, we have been to several Asian restaurants.
Another that has become a favourite, and just across the street from Singapulah is The Eight. A Hong Kong style café (Cha Chaan Teng) in London Chinatown. The best spot for authentic HK-style dining, the best wanton soup noodles in London. It is a very popular venue and the space is small, and they have reluctantly allowed smaller dogs in there.
We have also been to Plum Valley, an upmarket Cantonese restaurant with slick, dark slate and wood decor, serving extensive dim sum menu.
