There are certain souvenirs you expect to bring home from Scotland. A bottle of whisky, perhaps. A Harris Tweed cap. Maybe a piece of tartan.
What we didn’t expect was to return to London as Lady Lulu of the Glen and Lady May of the Glen.
As we journeyed through the breathtaking Scottish Highlands during our Kitchen Chat®: A Taste of Luxury, History and Hospitality Tour, someone introduced us to Highland Titles, a conservation initiative just outside Glencoe that was too intriguing not to explore.
So, naturally, we made the detour.
Nestled near the village of Duror, only a short drive from Glencoe, the Highland Titles Nature Reserve is dedicated to protecting and restoring native Scottish woodland. Rather than simply preserving what remains, the organisation uses the proceeds from its souvenir land plots to support reforestation, wildlife habitats and the ongoing care of the reserve. It’s conservation with a wonderfully Scottish twist. (Highland Titles)

For around £90, you can purchase a 10-square-foot souvenir plot within the reserve. Along with your plot comes permission to style yourself as a Laird (a Scottish word, meaning landowner), Lord, or Lady of the Glen as part of the Highland Titles community, a light-hearted tradition that celebrates your support for the land and its conservation. It isn’t an official title of nobility, but it is tremendous fun and, more importantly, helps protect a very special corner of the Highlands. (highlandtitles.com)

Well… you can probably guess what happened next.
Meet Lady Lulu

and Lady May of the Glen.

Of course, he is now Lord George. Darcy also now has her own place there too. Lady Darcy of Glen will forever be part of our little Scottish story.

And of course, Margaret joined in the fun too.

As if that wasn’t enough, Highland Titles even has its own beautiful tartan.
Wanting to celebrate the occasion in style, our wonderful friend Tracy from Higgs (formerly Distinguished Dog Company) created bespoke Highland Titles tartan bow ties for George and Lulu, and one for me too.

Of course we didn’t forget Darcy.

Because if you’re going to embrace a little Highland magic, you may as well do it properly.
Perhaps that’s what I loved most about the experience. Yes, it was whimsical. Yes, it was a little eccentric.
But behind the smiles is a genuinely worthwhile conservation project helping restore one of Scotland’s most spectacular landscapes.
We arrived in the Highlands expecting magnificent scenery, ancient history and memorable hotels.
We left with all of that … and just a little more to our names.
Yours faithfully,
Lady May of Glen (occasionally)
accompanied by Lady Lulu, Lord George and forever in our hearts, Lady Darcy.
