My Kensington Garden Walk

SONY DSC

We love our walks in Kensington Gardens. Not only is it fun to run, chase squirrels, meet and play with other pooches but there are lots of things to look at.

Before I am allowed to pee and poo and chase squirrels Mummy insists that I SIT! before she would let me off the lead.  I tremble with excitement as I see squirrels galore! And it takes a little while before I do what I am told.

And then I am off!

I loved squeezing through these fences to chase squirrels. It used to drive Mummy mad.  These days I am still tempted …

IMG_3246

… but now I knows I shouldn’t, so I reluctantly walk away from temptation.

IMG_3247

Er, excuse me?  A little privacy please?

IMG_3153

We walk past the grand and very ornate, gold plated Albert Memorial – Mummy call this the love memorial.

IMG_3070

And towards the Serpentine Gallery, but before that there are these two huge stones – one on top of the other – appropriately named “Rock on Top of Another Rock” by Fishli/Weiss

IMG_3158

We walk past the Serpentine Gallery … I heard there’s a new one further along – we must go and check it out soon.

IMG_3162

And see this old water pump that is no longer in use …

IMG_3164

There’s a busy bicycle path that Mummy tries to get me to stop before we get there. Sometimes I don;t realise I am approaching it and I run across. But most of the time, Mummy tries to get me to STOP! WAIT! and then when it’s clear she says “LET’S GO!” and we run across together.

IMG_3255

One of the things Mummy likes is the Dog Waste Only litter bins!

IMG_3165

And we see quite a few of these directional signs for the seven mile Princess of Wales Memorial Walk

IMG_3173

We walk past this structure which we have yet to discover what it is!

IMG_3076

Across the other side of the Long Water is a six-meter high Henry Moore sculpture – we don’t usually go over to the other side. Sometimes we do but that’s when we go to Hyde Park.

IMG_3079

Those birds like sitting in a row across the water

IMG_3082

We walk past the Peter Pan statue – it was actually donated by the author J M Barrie! I used to love to run in there and run through the bushes, and again I am no longer interested these days and would just walk past it.

IMG_3081

We head towards the Italian Gardens that was inspired by Prince Albert – it has ornate fountains

IMG_3084 IMG_3085

Along the way we saw this bench dedicated to a “Harvey” – Mummy thought it’s such a lovely thing and starting to have ideas … hmmm.

IMG_3176

And we come across our favourite Hugging Bear Fountain – this was most essential during our walks in the summer when it gets soooo hot!  We are usually parched by the time we get to this point.

IMG_3089

And here, we head back West.  When I used to walk this path with Zavia or Rocko, I would jump over the fence all the time – running off and chasing things but again I am no longer interested.

IMG_3090

So I walk along the dusty path and see if there are squirrels to chase.

IMG_3092

And then we walk past this red granite monument in memory of John Hanning Speke – the explorer who discovered Lake Victoria!

IMG_3095

And we run into Harvey now these days – he hasn’t been coming to our Cockapoo Meets of late.

IMG_3094

Then we head towards the man on the horse called Physical Energy statue which commemorates Sir Cecil Rhodes.  During the winter there’s usually a very fowl smelling puddle which we LOVE to roll in much to the aghast of our owners.  Many a crazed Mummy would go screaming at their dogs to get out of there!!!

IMG_3099

We take a path towards the Round Pond with swans and once we get closer, I am on the lead.

IMG_3102

And this is the reason why – sleeping swans.  I don’t bother them – I’ve been told off by them before – not a nice thing they said to me!

IMG_3105

And then we’re across the road from Kensington Palace. This was the original place where we first met for the first few Cockapoo Meets – in front of the Queen Victoria statue.  And Lupo lives there as well.

IMG_3107

When we got to this point, it was time to leave the park.  But we always walk past the little gazebo and it is here where I can spend hours running back and forth – there are lots of squirrels here.

IMG_3284

Just before we get to the Broad Walk, there’s this modern sculptured drinking fountain, Saint Govoer’s Well – it’s the site of an ancient spring

IMG_3318

At the exit, there’s a doggy fountain or my other option is a doggy bowl by the little cafe.

IMG_3285 IMG_3286IMG_3612

So out the park we go. This is our usual route … sometimes, ever so often, we try other parts of the park.
