With every sunset comes a sunrise – that’s what we have come to expect.
We love the seasons – each one of them brings their own brand of beauty. Year after year, they come and go.
Sometimes we complain it’s too cold, and other times too windy.
Or too hot!
But we all know there’s a wind these days that blows too strong and the sun scorches the earth so dry that it catches fire. Rains comes down too hard and flood the lands, the once majestic icebergs are succumbing to the heat. Things are changing all around us. The things we have been doing and continue to do to our planet is creating the climate change. We are worried but what do we do?
So we were only too glad to hear someone say – “In the next 10 years we are going to act. We are going to find the solutions to repair our planet.”
In 2018, Prince William said there was too much pessimism in the climate debate, and wanted to inject some optimism. He came up with the Earthshot prize, a project, a challenge inspired by President Kennedy’s Moonshot Project, with the hope of inspiring the innovators of the future to tackle some of today’s biggest challenges.
The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge unites people all around the world to find ways to:
- Protect and Restore Nature
- Clean Our Air
- Revive Our Oceans
- Build a Waste-Free World
- Fix Our Climate
At the inaugural Earthshot Prize event on Sunday evening in London, it was primarily a celebration of innovation and the inspiring projects around the world tackling some of the world’s most pressing environmental problems.

May’s comment: This may not be directly doggy related but we all live on the same planet. The Earthshot Prize event was not only informative but it was a positive voice in the face of climate change. There are those who shout and demand their rights for the world to be put right, but the 15 finalists of the Earthshot Prize showed us that there are those who have dedicated their time, their energy, their intellect to finding solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing our existence.
I was encouraged, I was tearful and hopeful that maybe just like President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot which united millions of people around an organising goal to put man on the moon and catalysed the development of new technology in the 1960s, The Earthshot Prize is centred around five ‘Earthshots’ – simple but ambitious goals for our planet which, if achieved by 2030, will improve life for us all, for generations to come.
Many of the solutions needed to reach our five Earthshots already exist – the task is to celebrate and scale them, with the ambition that they lead to mass adoption and replication.
If we all do our part, if we put our minds to it, we can collectively change the direction in which we are heading. Nature has shown that if given a chance, it can come back.
