It is the time of year when we wear our poppies to remind us of all those who gave up their lives so we may have peace.

That’s because poppies are said to be the flower that sprung up out of the freshly-dug graves of the dead soldiers in Flanders Fields in Belgium.
The poem by In Flanders Fields Canadian Doctor John McCrae recalls the scene when he noticed them in bloom.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
May’s comment: Lest we forget.
The Royal British Legion provides lifelong support for the Armed Forces community – serving men and women, veterans, and their families.
Buy and wear a poppy – a way of saying thank you to the First World War generation. 100% of the profits go to the Royal British Legion. We hope you will support their efforts especially this year.

My pin and poppy dog tags are from the British Legion website.
