“O’zapft is!”

Prost

A Bavarian saying and the official call for the start of Oktoberfest. It means the beer has been tapped. Without this phrase, Oktoberfest doesn’t begin and you don’t get your beer and pretzels.

When not in Bavaria, but in London – and if you’re searching for an authentic and lively Oktoberfest experience, look no further than Barley Mow Pub from the 23rd – 29th October.

From the moment you step through the doors of Barley Mow Pub during Oktoberfest, you’ll be transported to the heart of Germany. The pub is beautifully adorned with Bavarian decorations, including colorful pennants, Dirndl-clad waitstaff, and long communal tables reminiscent of the beer tents in Munich. The warm and convivial ambiance creates the perfect setting for an authentic Oktoberfest experience.

Once upon a time, Mum dressed us up …

Darcy wasn’t so impressed. Thank goodness I didn’t have to wear a lederhosen.

We feasted on classic dishes such as pretzels, bratwurst, sauerkraut, and schnitzel.

On Thursday, they will have a Live Oompah band too. Leiderhosen and Bavarian hats at the ready!  Prost!

May’s comment: As you probably know Oktoberfest is an annual two week festival held in Munich every year. This year it was from the 16 September – 3 October. But in London, we are a little late – LOL!

The first festival was in 1810 held in celebration of the marriage of the crown prince of Bavaria.

Since 1872, it has always been held on the first Saturday after September 15 until the first Sunday in October. The mayor of Munich taps the first keg to open the festival.

Total beer consumption at Oktoberfest is a pretty extraordinary 2 million gallons! There’s beer wagons and floats along with the costumes, of course. A proper beer celebration!

Nestled in the heart of town, Barley Mow Pub offers a festive atmosphere, delicious German cuisine, and a wide selection of Oktoberfest brews. It is part of the Cubitt House Group
