After the Le Tour de France event earlier today, we walked over to Hyde Park to remember what happened this day nine years ago.
Of course I wasn’t around then, but Mummy told me about it. She wasn’t in London either. She had heard it on the news in New York. She remembered being so proud that England had won the bid for the 2012 Olympics. And then such horror.
So it is with sadness that we looked at this memorial of 52 stainless steel pillars – representing each of the victims. 
People had come to leave flowers there for their loved ones. 
And there were yellow flowers scattered around the the pillars …
We couldn’t find out why they were yellow flowers though but they seem very poignant in the solemnity of the memorial, like little bursts of sunshine. Maybe it represents the hope of the future, that through all the sufferings there’s hope for a better world.
May’s comment: A permanent memorial to honour the 52 victims of the 7 July 2005 London Bombings is located in the south east corner of Hyde Park.
The memorial comprises of 52 stainless steel pillars – representing each of the victims. They are grouped in four clusters to reflect the four locations of the incidents.
A reminder of the atrocities that left so many wounded physically and emotionally. Whatever the yellow flowers signify may we never forget those who died so senselessly and that this may never be repeated again.

Did I hear correctly that someone/people had shamelessly vandalised this memorial just prior to its unveiling??

Yes, Tracey, they did vandalise the place the night before. There was a police car parked nearby keeping watch when we were there.
