Tomorrow night we will be travelling on the Caledonian Sleeper to Inverness, Scotland – all the way up north. We’re stopping there for a day and then onto Isle of Skye.
This is not my first trip to Scotland. The first time was almost two years ago on the 31st December, 2011. We went to St. Andrews for New Year’s or Hogmany as they say up north. And on the 1st day of 2012, we went to the beach. That was my first beach experience.
Checking it out
Once I had it all figured out … I ran and I ran and I ran! Mummy told me it was the right thing to do as this is where they filmed “Chariots of Fire” –
“I believe that God made me for a purpose. But He also made me fast, and when I run, I feel His pleasure.” And so I ran!
And time for a rest … I am no Olympian.
Ahhh – solitude
And then we were joined by others – waaah! What’s that big black furry thing?!?!?!
We stayed at a big hotel. I couldn’t really go anywhere except from the lobby on the way to the room. So Mummy had a lot of room service. But it was fine for me to run around outside but the grounds were so muddy because of the weather. And it was very, very windy.

May’s comment: Darcy’s first time at the beach. This is where they filmed “Chariots of Fire” – so it was appropriate that she ran and she ran and she ran. I had on my earphones and listened to the “Chariots of Fire” theme by Vangelis – just for the mood. It has always been one of my all time favourite films.
It was a beautiful first day of the new year (2012). The beach was empty when we first set off on our walk.
We stayed at the Fairmont St. Andrews – set on a 520 acre estate with a unique coastal setting and the Home of Golf. There are allocated rooms where dogs can stay. They had a bowl for water and another for food. Otherwise, there’s wasn’t a whole lot to do especially at that time of year. I came so Darcy and I can walk on the beach the first day of every new year – the sense of water and cleansing and to look out at the horizon – a new horizon for the new year.
