Today Bo and Sunny Obama say goodbye to The White House – the only home they have known.

When Barrack Obama was campaigning to become the 44th President of America, he promised his daughters that they will have a dog if they moved to the White House.
Well, they did and he kept his promise. Much was reported when Bo, a Portuguese Water Dog, a gift from the late Senator Ted Kennedy and his wife, became the nation’s First Dog.

He moved into the White House on the 14 April, 2009.Bo grew big

And strong. Very strong! Look Mummy! I am not the only dog that pulls!

And like any dog, he loved his tennis ball. He played in the snow He flew in planesHmmm, Mummy, private jet is obviously the way for us to travel.
He also did things most dogs do not do – He gave interviews.

Bo’s daddy had a tough job But no matter what was happening in the world of hoomans, Bo was there They played ball togetherAnd he took his daddy’s mind off things only hoomans cared aboutThey had special moments together. At other times, he had one-on-one with his mummyBut it was a little lonely at times being the First Dog.

And then in 2013, Bo had a “sister” – called Sunny.
She arrived  on 19 August, 2013 –
Everyone wanted to meet the latest member of the family in residence at The White House.

Together Bo and Sunny took on the world They took part in all events at The White HouseThey put on bunny ears for the Easter egg huntThey went looking for pumpkinsAnd of course Christmas.

They met many important hoomans that came to visitLike Pope FrancisThey met The Lady – Aung San Suu Kyi

They could often be seen playing togetherOr just sitting and watched the world go byThey absolutely have no guarding responsibilities. In fact they have to be guarded because there was a plot to kidnap them!!!

They love greeting their daddy enthusiastically!
And they made their mummy laugh!

Together they said goodbye to their first home

Bo and Sunny, you made your presence felt in the White House.  And we hope that the next occupant there will learn the unconditional love of a dog … and that the White House hallways will hear the sound of paws running through them again

May’s comment: Till the next First Dog at The White House, we salute you Bo and SunnyYou made them more human!

  1. Bo and Sunny make a great pair of First Dogs, don’t they? The Obamas were unique in selecting their breed.
