Christmas in Como

IMG_0206

When we think back to a truly special Christmas, it’s not the gifts or the decorations that stand out most—it’s the laughter, the warmth of love, and the joy of togetherness that linger in our hearts. These are the moments that give the holiday season its magic, creating memories that last far beyond the season itself.

This year we are celebrating in Lake Como together with our friend Ju-li and Mr. Darcy.

It’s a place where I had visited a couple of times before and in 2016, I brought Darcy to Villa d’Este for lunch and hoped to have returned with her for a Christmas. Well, we never made it but this year, we will remember her as we celebrate Christmas together.

Christmas at Villa d’Este did not disappoint and glad that we made more memories here.

One to remember …

Villa d’Este on Lake Como, like most of Italy is very dog-friendly.

Christmas is a day that holds all time together. And we hold onto our Christmas memories through the years together.

Rosie took this photo of me with George and Lulu and she photoshopped in a photo of Darcy taken by Andrew. Only memories can make dreams come true.

Memories of the time I was at Villa d’Este with Darcy in October 2016 … I wanted to come back with George but we never made it.

  1. Hi May,
I have been thinking a lot about Miss Darcy the last couple of weeks as I very suddenly and unexpectedly lost my gorgeous golden cockapoo far too early. I wanted to ask you how you navigated through the loss when your beloved Miss Darcey left you. I am finding it so hard.
    Best wishes
    Caroline x

    1. Dear Caroline,
I am sorry to hear about Bailey. During the time when I knew Darcy was terminally ill, and I didn’t;t know how much time she had left, someone said to me – Acceptance is key. Acceptance that death is a part of life. And when we accept that fact, we can forgive ourselves, and let go. Because life carries on and we have to continue living. There’s so much more that goes with this and I cannot say I have all the answers but I understand what you are going through. Life goes on and the hurt remains. It never goes away. And I don’t want it to. For as long as that pain remains, she lives on in me. x
