Bedtime story, George?
Someone sent “Bert Smells” to us because maybe they thought you can relate.
The story is about Bert who lives on a farm. Like you, George, he’s a curious pooch, smelling everything everywhere – and he loves to roll in stuff. You can say he’s a sniff and whiff pup! Sound familiar, George?
One day, the farm gate is open and Bert follows his nose and gets lost. When he asked for help, no-one would help him because he was smelly. When he thought he was lost forever, someone lent him a paw. Like the many times when Mum got a phone call because you were lost in your own world, Georgie!
The story is loosely based on the real life Bert. He was found, apparently, on the North Circular (a busy intersection in north London), and taken to the Mayhew rescue centre in North London. He was adopted from there.

Bert Smells is an “out and back” story. You can be different or lost, but there will always be someone there for you. In these difficult times when we feel lost, just know there is always someone there to help us – whether it be family, friends or organisations.
Good story, George?

May’s comment: In the book, there is a letter from “Real Bert” detailing this, and an end note referencing the Mayhew in their own words as well as thanking them.
One of the things we like to do is to help others make a success of their works. Something for the Christmas list – this is a book for the 3 – 6 age group.
