So many to save

IMG_2603

This woman dedicated the last twenty years of her life to saving dogs.

Sadly, a few weeks ago, she passed away leaving behind 3000 dogs in the shelter. Since her passing, the dogs are in danger with workers left unpaid and uncertain living conditions for the dogs.

An anonymous man had stepped in to lead the operation of securing the dogs’ living environment and carers again but he isn’t able to help the sickest of dogs. He had reached out to Slaughterhouse Survivors (SHS) to help.

Hayley and Brian from SHS drove 12 hours to the shelter to assess the situation and see how they could help, and its worse than they were anticipating.

There are ten locations on the site, and thousands of dogs that are literally starving. Dogs of all shapes, sizes, ages and breeds are there,

Mothers with puppies,

Elderly dogs, sick dogs, blind dogs, frightened dogs.

SHS have hired truck to the shelter and take as many dogs back to Harbin as possible.

The number they can commit to very much depends on the support and funds they raise for food, vets and a temporary warehouse to house the new rescues before they can join the Safehouse.

To see what they’ve had to do and the state of some of the dogs, go to their Instagram page – it will guarantee to break your hearts. They are doing all they can to nurse the sick ones back to health. But there are still so many more they couldn’t take which we hope the anonymous man in the area will help to keep them safe. They need your help to make that all possible.

May’s comment: Sometimes it feels like evil pervades and the good humans are always clambering behind the evil doers to clean up the ugliness they leave behind. It always feels like an uphill battle of good vs. evil. And some humans just get on with it – no matter what comes in their way.

There’s a group of angels in Harbin, China who give so much of themselves to save hundreds and hundreds of dogs. We have shared with you about Slaughterhouse Survivors and there was a little guy, Tiny Tim, who’s story we have followed. But in recent weeks, they have been stretched as they’ve had to deal with not hundreds but thousands of dogs.

Funds are needed to order food they can leave behind to tide the dogs over whilst the situation is sorted out. They’re looking to order another 10 tonnes of food. They need to rent a second temporary warehouse which will act as a small clinic and provide space to quarantine the dogs and nurse them back to health. Funds would cover rent. cages, cleaning supplies and food.

Amazing dog food supplier who not only delivered the food but stayed and helped to feed all the dogs and made sure all the food was handed out. She estimated the food delivered will last 25 days – and then they will need more.

Per dog costs around US$600/700 for preliminary vet care, including neutering and vaccines. This doesn’t include specialist treatment or ongoing care. Their priority is taking the dogs that need medical attention most.

If you can, please donate to https://www.harbinshs.com/donate. Even the smallest amount will go towards saving a life.

We are dedicating this week’s posts to dog rescues and reminding everyone how many dogs out there need our help.
