Do you remember Tiny Tim, the toy poodle with one leg who was rescued from a Meat Truck by Harbin Slaughterhouse Survivor?
We had seen Tiny Tim grow from a frightened little pup found in a sorry state, to growing in confidence when he was at SHS. Mum had considered adopting him but there were several factors that did not make it possible. There was Covid and no one was flying anywhere. But mainly because of his special needs, they wanted him to go to a rescue that could take care of his medical condition. The UK rescue that works with SHS could not facilitate that.
It’s been almost a year now since we first learnt about Tiny Tim. More dogs have arrived at SHS – but he was too tiny and incapacitated to be at the Safehouse where the dogs, both large and small roam freely. When he left the vet, he was cared for by one of the team members. And just last week, in the midst of all the chaos of 3000 dogs that needed to be helped, Mum found out that Tiny Tim had made it to Southern California at the rescue Road Dogs. He made it out!!! Woohoo!
Excitedly, Mum went on their Instagram page (@roadogs) and sure enough there’s Tiny Tim – with a man bun to rival George’s!!!
He arrived in Southern California in early July. After getting an Orthopaedic evaluation it was not recommended for Tiny Tim to have any surgical corrections. It appears that his hind legs are a congenital malformation which caused his soft tissue to form incorrectly. His right front radius was likely dislocated early in life, causing the limb to develop into what we see now.
He is being fostered and have acuscope treatments to help him further his mobility and pain meds to keep him comfortable. They estimated he’s 9+ years of age, and even with one mobile leg, he is a feisty little guy with a bark to let you know if he is displeased but a love bug at the same time. It is a miracle to think he had managed to survive given all his limitations.
Sadly, they don’t want him to leave the US due to ongoing medical needs. But we are so happy he has made it to where he is being cared for. He had come so far from being in a meat truck in Harbin to Southern California.
Apparently Tiny Tim is not the only Harbin Slaughterhouse Survivor dog that made it to Road Dogs in Southern California. Meet this little guy – Morky Skywalker!
Now guess why he is called that!
Like Tiny Tim, Mork faced death on a Harbin meat truck. Slaughterhouse Survivor had rescued him. He was in bad shape – starved and weighing just 5 kilos he was very ill with intestinal problems. Mork nearly died but he’s a fighter. He made progress and became well enough to be flown to Los Angeles with Road Dogs and Rescue. Since then he has become quite a celebrity as his story has been inspirational to the hopeless and his Instagram page @morkyskywalker brings hope, positivity and compassion.
It is a miracle in itself that Tiny Tim and Mork Skywalker have made it off a meat truck to Southern California!
May’s comment: In following Tiny Tim’s story, we have discovered more angels who keeps giving. Harbin SHS had informed me that Tiny Tim is now in Southern California being cared for by Road Dogs & Rescue. I was thrilled to hear he had made it out of China and on his way to a new life.
Road Dogs & Rescue rescues bulldog breeds, with their primary focus being complicated medical dogs, seniors and special needs puppies. They are the most likely to be euthanized. They are often dumped at shelters or abandoned at veterinary clinics. Some regard them as defective and shun them. Road Dogs see them as just differently beautiful and differently abled and they deserve to live amazing lives! Yup! That’s why Tiny Tim is there.
HOW IT STARTED
Road Dogs & Rescue was founded by bulldog-loving Brit, Nikki Carvey. She started volunteering for an organization called Ace of Hearts over 10 years ago. They rescue a lot of American Bulldogs and she had a Pit Bull and an American Bulldog at the time. When her Pit Bull, Vinny died, she rescued an English Bulldog, Huxley aka Bukowski aka Grumplestiltskin! She wasn’t planning on keeping him but he made her laugh so much she foster-failed. Huxley cemented her commitment to rescuing bulldogs.
WHY BULLDOGS?
Because although they are ‘cute’ and expensive, many wind up in the shelters or unwanted because people do not realize how expensive they can be to maintain. Eye issues, skin issues, joint issues – you name it, bulldogs get it. They are the Lovable Lemons of the canine world!
All Harbin Slaughterhouse Survivors dogs are available for adoption around the world. Adoption fees vary – as they are based upon current transport costs, and are sometimes set by their various partner rescues. Road Dogs & Rescue is one of the partners they work with in the U.S. All successful applications will be thoroughly home-checked either by a member of our team or our partner rescues.
Unfortunately due to the USA CDC’s recent ban, prohibiting dogs from 113 countries (including China) from entering, we are unable to send dogs to the USA for adoption from 14th July 2021. Until further notice, adoptions continue to be facilitated in the UK, European and Canadian adoptions.
