The (cuddle) Army has rolled in!

Tonight we’ve been spoilt rotten by some of the members of Harvey’s Army – the humans that led the petition to change the law that will make it compulsory for the Highway Agency to scan all dead pets and log the incidents with the police and dog wardens.  And we are loving it!

You name it, we ate it! Burgers and fries … Gin and tonicCrumble …Oh yes!And we got treats and hugs We sat on the banquetteAnyway, back to these out-of-town visitors – they are are here to attend the hearing for Harvey’s Law in Parliament tomorrow. It was about a year ago when we started to get involved in helping to get signatures for the Harvey’s Law ePetition

Mummy told me how she was so touched by the people who were all involved in trying to find Harvey when he ran away one night after he was frightened by a thunderstorm.  And then when Harvey’s owner was told that he had been killed in a road accident and the body discarded soon after – the humans who joined in the search, became an Army to fight the rights of pets.  And they marched on and on and by January this year, they had won the first battle – to gain over 100,000 signatures. That goal allowed it to be discussed in Parliament – and that’s happening tomorrow.  Mummy is planning on going to listen to the discussion.

Too bad George and I can’t attend.

We hope that Harvey’s Law could be passed and that our humans will have the support of the government if something should happen to their pets – and not just discarded without thought.

Harvey’s Law is a campaign by animal lovers who rallied together to demand for change in the law that will make it compulsory for the Highway Agency to scan all dead pets and log the incidents with the police and dog wardens.

This was unfortunately not the case when Harvey went missing in November 2013. After a much publicised campaign to find Harvey, his owners were told in February 2014 that he had been killed on the roads less than an hour after he disappeared.

“Harvey’s Army” led by Nina Blackburn campaigned for change in the law. And is the next step towards achieving the goal to make scanning of dead pets compulsory and reporting the incident.

P.s. It’s such an interesting dynamic when we’re out with dog crazed people – they let us do things that others would find appalling!!! 🙂
