A few nights ago we saw the Full Buck Moon light up the skies in Alfriston.
This July full moon is called a Buck Moon because the antlers of male deer (bucks) are in full-growth mode at this time. It was supposedly the biggest and brightest supermoon of the year!
We stood together in the middle of the village High Street and admired the heavenly light. It was made more dramatic by the clouds drifting across the skies, the moon peeping through them.
It’s become quite a habit of ours to always look up at the night skies. Our eyes are now well trained to locate Ursa Major (Big Bear). We then track to the right of it to find Polaris (North Star) and that is the tip of Ursa Minor – where Darcy’s star reside. But the full moon in Capricorn meant no stars were visible to the naked eye. Even then we knew she was up there in the heavens. And we waved and blew kisses.
Though there were no visible stars in the sky, The Star was shining bright on the High Street at the centre of this medieval village. That is the hotel where we were staying.
We are on another staycation, this time with Dante and Dede, and their dads, James and Frank.

May’s comment: Alfriston is a lovely village set in the foot of the East Sussex Downs. On the banks of the Cuckmere River, the sea and the magnificent Seven Sisters chalk are within walking distance.
I was here last May when we stayed at Port Hotel in Eastbourne and saw the Seven Sisters.
This time we came here to stay at The Star Hotel – one of the three Polizzi Collection hotels.
We were delighted not just by the hotel but Alfriston is absolutely charming. Thankfully, a lot of the stores were not open on a Monday when we were there – but so many pretty little shops.

How tiny George looks alongside Dede and Dante. I’m sure he still pines for Darcy.
He really is a small dog. I don’t think he pines for Darcy though I am sure he has no idea where she has gone and how he gets to be top dog.
