Meander along the path and take time to breathe in the fresh air, listen to the birds sing as you cross the footbridge into the meadow beyond …
I loved sitting outside and listening to the sounds of nature, and looking out for some form of wildlife.
Thankfully when Mr. Fox came to pay us a visit, Mum had just called me inside!!!!! Wow! That was a close call.
Our pod was in a secure fenced in area, and Mum would let me outside as long as she could see me, she was fine. As soon as she had lost sight of me, she would go looking to see where I was – LOL! And inevitably she always found me rolling on my back! Whether it was fox poo or just delight in rolling on grass.
I was very curious what was beyond the gate and as you can see, I could easily climb over it – which I did one day. And all I did was wander down the path and was so happy discovering things and rolling on the grass. When Mum called, panicking, she then saw me on my back, all four legs up in the air, rubbing by body on the grass. I ran back to her as soon as I heard her call my name. What’s the problem? LOL!
Mum’s comment: Glamping in log cabins, shepherd huts, pods seem to be the rave these days and we’ve stayed in quite a few, so this time around we sort of knew what to expect when we were invited to stay at the newly opened Rutland Rural Retreats (RRR) in Belton.
The recent world events and the stresses of every day life since Covid have made me want to run away from reality. So we went to RRR for a few days to re-charge.
There is much to be gained from taking time out to enjoy the more simple pleasures in life and appreciating the healing powers of nature.
RRR has been designed for an escape from everyday life and to enjoy the Rutland countryside. Set off the beaten track in a secluded and private four acre meadow land in the undulating hills of Rutland, RRR is currently a two pod glamping retreat. There were horses, sheep and all sorts of wildlife –
I was very grateful that there were no muddy trails that led us to the pods! LOL!
Individually designed and built, the pods are fully equipped with kitchenette, living and dining space and en-suite. The outside space provides the opportunity to dine under the stars. On chillier days guests can relax and dine inside the heated pods.
You also don’t have to necessarily worry about cooking. Liz’s Larder provides pre-order home cooked meals and sundries.
Aside from that, Rutland and nearby surrounding villages has a wealth of fine eateries, restaurants and pubs – from traditional pub classics to fine dining, from Indian and Chinese to fish and chips. We visited a couple over the few days.
We had Afternoon Tea at Stapleford Park near Melton Mowbray.
In the picturesque village of Lyddington, Uppingham, we ate at Marquess of Exeter, an exciting modern Indian restaurant by award-winning chef, fresh from London, Krishnapal Negi.
There was so much to see around Rutland, England’s smallest county – Rutland Waters, country houses and estates, local market towns to name a few. Check them out at RRR’s website.
So when you feel like getting away, when you feel like it is time to put your phone on silent, unwind and re-charge in the heart of beautiful surroundings, this might just be the place to escape to for a few days – and to discover a beautiful part of England.
There are lots of walking trails, water sports and bird watching opportunities as well.
One of the reasons we live going to remote places is to look up in the night sky to say hello to Darcy. The Ursa Minor was right outside our front doors.

What a lovely trip that was , so peaceful but really interesting and what a bonus to be able to see Darcy’s star and have some time with her . I’m sure she knows that you and George are getting on with life but still including her .🐾🐾💞
