Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the town
Most creatures were home, even the mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hope that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her red dress, and us in our sweaters,
Just got in the cab on our way to Bruno’s for dinner,
We arrived in time with champers in hand,
And greeted Bruno and family with tails a waggin’
We checked out the kitchen and crumbs on the floor
Then the humans sat down to dinner while we were a beggin’
A few bitty bread crumbs was all that we got
And no matter what we weren’t getting any
George was teasing Bruno and frisky tonight
But Bruno had no such intentions in sight
Then finally the crackers needed pulling
And in it was a paper hat that was too big for Georgie
After we’ve begged, tumbled and played
Mummy said it’s late we needed to get going
Hurry! Hurry! Mr. Cab Driver we must not be late
We have to get home and get into bed
Or we might cross Santa driving his sleigh
We made it in time and we ran up the stairs
And into bed we snuggled next to Mummy who said –
“Happy Christmas my dear doggies, and to you a good night!”

May’s comment: As we drove through the city the Christmas lights seemed a little brighter tonight. And so they should be – as tomorrow is the reason why the lights in windows and on buildings have been lit. Decorations have been meticulously set up since November.
And as we reached the climax of all the hustle and bustle – the crescendo dissipates into quietness on the streets. And it always seems just a little melancholic to me.
As I mull over why I feel the way I do, I am at least grateful for the little furry balls – both of them, who came home with me tonight.
They don’t really know it’s Christmas – but they are Christmas to me – everyday.
