Continuing on our journey around Scotland with Margaret from Kitchen Chat, we had a most wonderful time at Cromlix House Hotel, a Victorian country house hotel set in secluded acres of countryside. The estate and hotel is owned by Andy Murray and his wife, Kim.
Upon entering, the first thing that you notice is the infused signature woody scent that greets you. And the interiors at the reception area immediately suggests warmth and cosy.
The hotel is a reimagined Scottish country house experience. Suzanne Garuda‘s interiors are unfussy and uplifting, using a myriad of colours.
Each room is named after flowers and herbs.
The hospitality exceeded all expectations. We didn’t emphasise why we were there, but the staff made an effort to learn about George and Lulu from our social media.
You know they understood dogs when they provide each dog a bowl for food and water.
The dog’s cooked breakfast menu was prepared according to size requirements and included salmon and mackerel with brown rice and spinach, steamed chicken with pea and sweetcorn porridge, and beef and bean meatloaf with chicken livers. Don’t they all sound delicious? George and Lulu thought so.
The culinary team provided a thoughtfully prepared menu, including breakfast, afternoon tea, and dinner.
Of course we had Afternoon Tea in the Drawing Room. Some of the cakes had references to tennis.
And we were able to share the dining experience with my godson, Edgar, and his Mum at the Glasshouse Restaurant—the only place off-limits to dogs.
Edgar and Sylvia happened to be on holiday in Scotland and we managed to meet up on their final night.
We really couldn’t ask for more. The interiors were a feast for the eyes, the food was delightful, and they loved the dogs. It felt like home.
This beautiful Victorian mansion has been passed down through generations of the Drummond family, converted from a family home to a hotel, and even survived a fire in 1878.
The only structure that remained from the fire was the chapel.
