With one in four Brits owning a dog, an estimated 9 million doggies live in the U.K. – there’s a lot of us! One blogger, DogBuddy did some digging through databases to find which movies, current affairs and celebs have influenced dog name trends of 2018.
And here are the Top 10 Names for 2018!!!
Hmmm. Ours are not there … which we think Mum prefers – because we’re unique!
Now, the next Infograph shows names influenced by royalty – and GEORGE still didn’t make it either. Â But Louis increased in popularity by 3%. Â But then George was named after a certain actor and not the Prince!
I don’t think we know any pooch called King! Â We know a few Charlie, including a girl.
And films have also been an influencer. Â If we have another dog and she came white and fluffy, Mum would name her Khaleesi as in the mother of Dragons in The Game of Thrones.. That’s a bit scary. We hope she’s not a real Mother of Dragons!
Hey look! Mum’s name, MAY – shot up by 400%!!! Oh, that’s the PM of GB?
She may be feeling down and out these days but she’s top dog in this poll! We rather like the result of this poll!!! 🙂
I don’t think we know any of these names … but we know a few boys and girls called Marley! 
But of course popularity changes with regions and its interesting to see what resonates.
We definitely know at least one with all those names. Â And even more interesting are the top dog names in the other European countries.
And making a comeback are some names from the distant past.

Well, as far as I am concerned Darcy and George are top dogs, after our Cody, that is! ?
Wookie isn’t on the list! Good! I’d have been disappointed if it was!
Darcy didn’t use to be on the list but now she is in there … 🙂
Where are Peanut, Bailey, and Boo for girls? Those are my three girls. They, too, are unique. And of course there is Buddy the Dog (George’s American doppelgänger) at #6!
I like the idea of naming a dog “Dave”. We had a “Wilson” once too—95 lbs of muscle, sweetness, and stupidity—loved that big lug).
