Ending the Year

IMG_1787

And we were off to Cornwall for our end of year tradition of being by the ocean.

Mum wanted some Poldark country and we’re all prepared for the weather too. Destination: Sennen Cove. It is right at the western end of Cornwall, almost as far as Land’s End! We needed to get an early train, at an unearthly hour of departure … at 5.30am!

Mum’s pretty good with timing all our toilet needs before we embarked on long journeys by train.

Waiting in the taxi while Mum went to throw away our poo! LOL!

Even the lights at Paddington Station were not turned on yet! And there were only a handful of passengers.

In fact, even the train carriages were almost empty.

After a very long five hour train journey, we finally arrived in Penzance.

Missy and Fiona picked us up at the station and went straight to one of our favourite hotels, The Godolphin for lunch at Shutters.

And besides being back at Marazion and looking out at St. Michael’s Mount, we got to see Michela!

Recognise that island in the background? Yes, it is St. Michael’s Mount.

After a very long lunch, we finally made our way to the Old Success Inn in Sennen Cove.

This morning, we had an early beach walk – to see the last sunrise of the last day of the year.

I think we were the noisiest dogs on the beach.

After breakfast, we thought to walk around St. Ives but we couldn’t find a place to park the car! It was crowded so we thought it was best we went somewhere else – and unexpectedly turned up at the Apple Tree Cafe in Sennen.

It was a sweet little cafe that has a lovely menu. The best find of the day.

Back to Sennen Cove, and one last look at this day, the last day of 2021.

May’s comment: As we do at the end of each year, we make our way to some coastal place for our traditional end of year and first day of the year walk on the beach. Well, last year we only managed to walk around the Serpentine – for the symbolic nature of water but we didn’t have new horizons to look out to. Maybe that jinxed us!

Have a safe and happy New Year’s Eve.
