Hats & Tea

As London’s summer social scene unfolds, two of the city’s oldest and most esteemed family-run businesses have come together to celebrate Lock & Co.’s royal tea party-inspired Spring/Summer ‘24 collection and the timeless tradition of afternoon tea at Brown’s Hotel.

In the lead-up to this year’s Ascot, my friend Margaret from Kitchen Chat and I were invited to Brown’s for the Lock & Co. Afternoon Tea in the wood-panelled Drawing Room. Naturally, we donned hats for the occasion.

Miss Lulu even wore my headpiece to get into theme. Gentleman George didn’t have a top hat so he opted for a smart scarf instead.

The Drawing Room at Brown’s Hotel, with its rich history of notable tea-drinkers including Queen Victoria, makes every guest feel like royalty. Our regal experience began the moment we were greeted by the doorman, resplendent in his bespoke Lock & Co. Mayfair Top Hat.

The tea-themed collection draws inspiration from Catherine of Braganza, the tea-loving Queen Consort who popularised Britain’s favourite beverage. Handcrafted pieces include the classic Darjeeling Wide Brim Hat, the delightfully reimagined Assam Saucer.

And the show-stopping Rose Bud Leather Percher, recreated in cake form to sit alongside Lock & Co.’s original.

The resemblance was so uncanny I couldn’t tell which was the edible version.

Executive pastry chef Ross Sneddon was on hand to chat about the delectable creations. Lulu and George sampled some teeny bites of scones.

This delectable celebration of Lock & Co.’s royal tea party-inspired Spring/Summer ‘24 collection is available at Brown’s Drawing Room until August 31st. Don’t miss this unique blend of fashion and tradition!
