Mutt trespasses grounds of Windsor Castle

IMG_2051

We were on the train to Windsor for a walk with Barney and Nelly. IMG_2003 It wasn’t a long ride but I was anxious to get there – looking out for Windsor & Eton station.IMG_2007The train ride was just under an hour.  When we arrived Barney, Nelly, Emma and Kevin were there to meet us.IMG_2008 We meandered through the town to the Long Walk in Windsor ParkIMG_2076 – where it is safely enclosed so George wouldn’t be able to wander away – or so we hoped.

There we were – all ready for a walk/run/chase/doodle dashing …IMG_2023 And off we went!!!IMG_2025 Like four lunatics – we ran to our heart’s content.IMG_2010 Barney usually watches on the sideline –IMG_2015Oops, sorry Mummy – the puddles really weren’t so deep.  You’re not happy? Oh well. It happens.
IMG_2020 And along came another cockapoo!  Hello, fellow poo!IMG_2031We were running and chasing while the humans kept a watchful eye over us.IMG_2028

One minute there was George … IMG_2026 The next he’s running away –IMG_2038And he was curiously looking at what was behind the fence.

Mummy held her breath – wondering if the gaps in the fence were wide enough for him to slip through. And before anyone could do or say anything, his curiosity got the better of him and he went right through the fence!!!  OMG! He’s has gone inside the Windsor Castle estate!

Mummy and Emma called after him – at first they could see him rustling in the bushes and then he disappeared. What were they to do?  Mummy did not panic – she felt he would at least be safe in there.

After a very long minute of silence and no sightings, he reappeared. He didn’t seem to see us until he heard Mummy and Emma calling after him.IMG_2077He came running up to the fence and again, like the other day in the park he didn’t know how to cross over. Mummy reached over, grabbed his collar to pull him over.IMG_2078George started licking his paws and we thought maybe he had stepped on something.  But on examination they seemed fine.  He wasn’t just licking one paw but two of them.  He could walk without limping and Kevin mentioned that the vets had said – paw licking could be a form of showing stress. He was shaking a little.  Maybe he freaked out when he couldn’t see Mummy.

Or maybe he got told off by the corgis?  Or did the horses shoo-ed him away – telling him to get back to his side of the fence? IMG_2033Well, Georgie, we hope you’ve learnt a lesson and not go wandering off to places behind fences – or anywhere for that matter.

Besides, that we had a really lovely walk – and I think we’ll be back! IMG_2048We’re in search of parks to walk – particularly fenced in ones for George. And Emma told us there are a few others in Windsor we can go to the next time.

May’s comment:  George has a bad habit – when he gets bored after running and playing with Darcy or the other dogs – he would get distracted by his own sense of wonder and decide to wander off on his own.  At which point he has selective hearing and does not turn back to check where we are.  Within short distances his recall is really quite good but once he gets in that mode, he heads off only in one direction. He sees no one, he hears no one. But if by chance he’s running and then sees me, he does come to his name.

At Windsor, I knew he would come back – and I knew he was in a safe place.

  1. We think George’s sense of wanderlust is a leftover result of him wandering the streets as a stray foraging for food and always on the go! Some things never leave you..we still freak out when we hear cartoons on the tele! Before our Mummy and Daddy rescued us we lived in a house with little children who watched them and they were not so nice to us, so it brings back bad memories when we hear children’s voices too..Quincy used to shake for the longest time! It has gotten better with time! You both look so beautiful and Happy!
