We, the Trio are off to the continent – Mummy a little nervous about the whole adventure we’re about to set upon.
Later today we’ll take the train to Harwich and stay the night at The Pier – a lovely hotel that takes dogs! That way we don’t have to get up at 04.30 on Friday morning to get there in time to sail on the ferry to Hoek van Holland. Instead, we will just have a lovely evening looking out at the harbour and the next morning we will make our way to the port.
So, Georgie, we’re going on an adventure altogether and don’t worry, when we cross the Channel, we’re not taking you back to Hungary.
We’ll be on the Stena Line ferry for almost 7 hours. I’ve been on this ferry before a couple of years ago when we went to Dusseldorf for Christmas. As Mummy is a foot passenger, George and I have been assigned kennels where we will stay during the crossing. Mummy can come and visit us, and maybe take us out of our kennels for hugs and some business matters.
When we arrive in Hoek van Holland, we’ll take a train to Amsterdam and stay the night there. Again Mummy has found a lovely boutique hotel – The Toren – who have been so amazing in helping us with our arrangements. The last time when we were on this journey, we passed through Holland en route to Dusseldorf. This time we will have an evening there and the next morning a quick walk along the canals before we finally set off on our train to Berlin.
It was many, many years ago when Mummy was last there. She told us that she had a part to play in bringing the wall down!
On the 3rd November, 1989 she was in then East Berlin and joined the protest march. That following Thursday, 9th November, 1989 – the East Berliners crossed over to West Berlin.
She showed us the piece of the wall that she had managed to retain.
We look forward to all the sights of Berlin. I will get to see Aunty Beate again. She’s coming all the way from Frankfurt to see us – especially to meet George.
C’mon George, this is the beginning of our many trips.
May’s comment: Always up for a challenge. Travelling with Darcy has become routine. I know her ways and she’s familiar with trains and stations and waiting times and boarding procedures. I might find out I am out of my mind to take two dogs on this long, tedious trip of many miles and a few days. But it is definitely more fun travelling with the dogs than not.

Looking forward to reading about your adventure, with your new member
I applaud you for your ability to do this. Enjoy your trip with you munchkins and have save travels out and back. For Miss Darcy, be good to George and be sure to teach him for Mum so he will also love to do this with you
