We had recently discovered Pantechnicon in London’s Belgravia neighbourhood. It is four-storeys of shopping and dining that showcases both Japanese and Nordic cultures.
As we entered the Greek style facade building of Doric columns, there was Café Kitsuné, a French-Japanese music and fashion label, Maison Kitsuné.
This is the first Café Kitsuné in London and is open for breakfast and lunch, and pastries on offer. Not to mention a lot of baked goods and Kitsuné goodies for purchase!
And the KITSUNÉ Fox biscuit …
We had a browse around The Edit also on the ground floor next to Cafe Kitsuné. It showcases a curated range of Japanese and Nordic brands of skincare, stationary, books.
We made our way up to the Roof Garden where we could have lunch on the terrace – especially on a beautiful day like we had been having …
On the way up, we came across The Studio on the first floor.
It has a wider offering of ceramics, fashion, knives and finer things from the Nordics and Japan.
As we made our way up, on the second floor, we passed by Eldr, or “fire” in Old Norse, a restaurant that serves a cuisine inspired from the 10 different countries that make up the Nordic region. (Mum was trying to figure out which are the 10 – she can only think of four Nordic countries!)
Eldr is not dog-friendly and it is also currently not open till later on the road map out of lockdown. But they are serving the same food in the Roof Garden bar and dining room. Dogs are also not allowed in the Roof Garden
But we could walk through the restaurant out to the south-facing Terrace surrounded by a Nordic garden.

The Roof Garden and Terrace is an all-day spot that serves small plates and main dishes from the kitchen at Eldr.
The waiter even brought us water in a very Nordic design dish!
After lunch, we went down to Cafe Kitsuné for a “little” dessert!
We sat outside at the bistro tables under glorious sunshine!
A must-go destination if you love Japanese and Nordic culture and design. We’ve only been twice in one week! LOL!
May’s comment: Billed as London’s largest retail venture since lockdown, PANTECHNICON is “home for a playful celebration of Nordic and Japanese creativity and craftsmanship” told through food, drink, design and experiences. Being a fan of both Japanese and Nordic designs, I was in heaven.
Located on a pedestrianised section of Motcomb street,
Pantechnicon’s grand facade with a series of towering columns was built in 1830 as an arts and crafts centre. Over time it became a warehouse for the affluent locals of Belgravia.
After years of renovation, today it houses two shops, displaying beautifully curated items of Nordic and Japanese designs. And cafes and restaurants that serves food from both regions.
