Some places feel like old friends—their presence lingers long after you’ve checked out. For us, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park has always been one of those places, a hotel where memory and emotion seem to live in the walls.
It felt particularly meaningful to return this summer, as part of our Luxury, History and Hospitality™ Tour. Standing proudly across from the sweeping green expanse of Hyde Park and its elegant gardens, the hotel offers one of London’s loveliest outlooks, a reminder that the city and nature exist side by side here.

The iconic doormen in their bright red jackets stood waiting at the entrance, ready with warm smiles and a sense of ceremony that made your arrival feel special before you stepped inside.

Through the doors and into the marble lobby, everything felt at once grand and familiar.

From the very first moment, there was an unmistakable warmth—not just in the polished grace of the staff, but in the small gestures that said, without words, that our dogs weren’t just allowed, they were genuinely welcome.
Smiles widened as we arrived, greetings felt familiar, and within minutes, George and Lulu were wagging their approval at the Teddy Maximus beds and toys waiting for them in the room, laid out as thoughtfully as if for honoured guests.

And then, the most delightful surprise: we were invited back for Afternoon Tea at The Rosebery Lounge—with George and Lulu. We returned after our stay to meet our friend Claire. Under the soft glow of chandeliers, surrounded by the clink of china and happy conversation, we tucked into tiers of delicate finger sandwiches, jewel-like pastries, and warm scones with clotted cream and jam, beautifully presented on a tree-like stand—George and Lulu resting contentedly beside us, part of the occasion.
On our last stay during the stillness of lockdown, Darcy and George were with me. London was hushed, the hotel subdued, and Afternoon Tea was something we could only imagine, as dining spaces were closed and dogs weren’t allowed in any F&B areas. It was a beautiful stay, but it always felt like more was waiting to be experienced.

Now, everything feels different. These changes speak to something more profound than policy: an understanding that for many of us, our dogs are family. When they are welcomed, we exhale more fully, linger a little longer, and feel truly at home.
And for that, we are deeply grateful.
