There comes a time when we need to get away from it all and to read a book instead of being fixated on the telly.
We love our home and throughout Lockdown, it has been our haven. But more than a year later, without access to a garden, I think Mum was starting to feel claustrophobic. Travelling abroad with us in tow isn’t an option at the moment – as it means crossing the Channel by train or ferry to the continent. That is still not advisable. So just like last Summer when the lockdown was lifted, we began our staycations for a change of scenery – and to be pampered.
Last week, we escaped the city to the seaside. This week we went to another part of London to enjoy the city and all the recent re-openings of restaurants.
The Mayfair Townhouse had opened late last year and then closed soon after when the second lockdown was implemented. But now that hotels have reopened, Mum treated us all to a stay.
We were greeted by this beautiful crystal-encrusted peacock in the lobby! Can’t wait to see our room!

They had beds for us but I think we much preferred Mum’s bed.
It was so convenient to have Green Park less than half a block away. It’s a park that we love – lots of squirrels!
And one of our favourite places to stop for a coffee and patisserie, the Robuchon Deli is just across the street from the park and two block from The Mayfair Townhouse.
And with Covid alfresco dining, we were able to have lunch at nearby Hide also on Picadilly. Dogs are not allowed inside.
But for a special night out with Mum, we went to Le Comptoir Robuchon!
Though they welcome small to medium size dogs, Mum didn’t want to push the boundaries. She left George and Jessie with a dog-sitter back at the hotel. LOL! We will report on our fine dining experience in our next blog.
When we returned to the hotel, the turndown service had already been. And there on the bed was a book for bedtime reading …
After two nights in Mayfair, we reluctantly left to go home. I think Mum felt rejuvenated and so pleased that we all had a lovely experience of such fabulous hospitality for us. And to have found even more restaurants that welcome dogs.
May’s comment: I had looked into flying off to one of the Green countries – Gibraltar in particular but after finding out all the things I needed to do before and after the journey just seemed too daunting. I decided it was not only safer to continue with our staycations but to take advantage of all the special packages at the moment.
The Mayfair Townhouse had only opened last December before the second lockdown came into effect. They have now reopened their doors for overnight stays. It is part of the Iconic Luxury Hotel group which includes Chewton Glen, Lygon Arms and one of our all-time favourites – Cliveden House. So we had to check it out.
When I told them I was bringing three dogs, they did not flinch. From the moment we checked it to when we left, they greeted our comings and goings with so much warmth and enthusiasm.
And when a friend dropped in for coffee with two Daschunds, the staff thought it was delightful to have five dogs all at once in the Bar Lounge. We were allowed to dine here with dogs.
So if you’re thinking of enjoying London with your pooches in tow – The Mayfair Townhouse is a definite option. There is a fee for dogs for all the amenities and deep cleaning.

The Mayfair Townhouse sure was doggie friendly! I loved those personalized water bottles! How about being so close to Buckingham Palace? This Townhouse was the place to be!
