To the world you maybe one person, to me, you’re my world.
I had a rough start in life, surviving on the streets in Hungary until I was culled and thrown into a Killing Station. It could have been disastrous but it turned out to be the first day of my new life. I was rescued by Hungary Hearts Dog Rescue and eventually I travelled to London where I met my foster Mum on the 18th September, 2014 …

It took all of nano seconds before she started saying to Kim, “If I were to keep Bobo (that was my name), I would …” and she reeled off a list of things, the most important one was she would rename me – GEORGE, as in Clooney. Many of you who have followed my journey knew that. But do you remember what she called me before I finally became George?
HWHNN – and it’s not Welsh. Its abbreviated for He Who Has No Name.
After ticking off all the boxes of concern, she finally signed the adoption papers and when she sent them back to Hilda on the 26th September 2014 – I officially became George. So today, is the official Gotcha Day-Adoption Day-Renaming Day. Even though I had her at hello! LOL!

So today, eight years ago, I became hers and she became my Mum.
May’s comment: I’ve also encountered in recent months, several instances with people running after me, “Excuse me! Excuse me! What breed is your dog?” In another instance, we were standing at the bus stop, when a scowling individual stared at George and then turned and asked, “What is he? He is gorgeous.” And then a conversation ensued. Yes, he’s been called Gorgeous George or “Georgeous” many a time.
It had not occurred to me that when I had both dogs, Darcy always took centre stage.

Not until my neighbour who saw me soon after Darcy’s passing when she said, “Darcy had so much presence that I never noticed George.”

Others have noticed that George seems so much calmer these days. For whatever reasons, he was boisterous before, maybe it was because he needed to be the Alpha Male when Darcy was around. And maybe it’s coupled with the fact that I am giving him so much more attention that he is benefitting from the attention.
He has however become more anxious whenever I had to leave him with someone else. I don’t think he knows nor understand what happened to Darcy. He might think that I had given her away, and of course he has no concept of the Rainbow Bridge. Overall, he is fine. Life goes on for us.
I used to celebrate the day we met on the 18th September, which was the day of the Scottish Referendum. But due to the course of events the previous week, I’ve decided that we should celebrate the day George was formally adopted. Today, eight years ago, George joined my family. We became a trio.

And today, it is just the two of us.

Many have asked if I would get another. And I would answer, “I have George.”
Here are some previous blogs I had written about George’s Gotcha Day.

Such a beautiful story. George seems so smart. He knows just what you need. What a little love he is. And yes, he is just gorgeous! I think his thankfulness and live for you just shines through.
